I have conclusive proof that my big toe resembles a banana! This was revealed to me during a house concert last week in Cudmirrah when I thought I had finished feeding bananas to a friendly possum on Brett & Deb's verandah. As soon as my hand was empty she went straight for my big toe- & I thought I wasn't the girly screaming type! Still it was another wonderful house concert as they all have been. There are some photos of that night up on the 'on tour' section of the gallery if you want a peek (none of the possum or my toe though). They were kindly uploaded by Derek Elmes who has been the first external contributor to the gallery- proving it's not hard to do. Thanks Derek! The other vivid memory from that particular night was our collapsing bed which demonstrated that it's not always a good idea to bounce enthusiastically into bed as I like to do after a great night. Third time lucky we got the slats positioned right & I slid a lot more carefully & elegantly & all was well for a good nights sleep. Fun was also had with Alison & Andrew at Orient point near Culburra beach. We had a lot of junior contributors to the show & our minidisc recording reveals a lovely background murmur of little Simon & the occasional experimental strum on an unattended instrument by anotherenthusiastic junior member of the audience. Friday night at cafe beyond was a cosy affair witha lot of friends. We had wonderful musical catharsis- all of us mourning the lack of Damon & Julie & the kids who were so conspicuously absent from the night. Sean did us all a huge favour by ringing Damon in Darwin during 'Stronger the Tree' (which was written about him) & we were able to talk to him due to the wonders of technology. Best of all we set out for Cooma after the show with expresso coffee & two huge slabs of 'beyond chocolate' mud cake! Thanks Helen- you are a gem & what a cook! After a weekend of great performances with Jigzag, Steve & I worked our way back to Wollongong where I finally got around to sewing some gorgeous red velvet drapes for the team van. Now when we wake up in the back we'll be bathed in a rosy glow! Big thank you to John & Jean from the Bicton Mafia who express posted me some make-up etc I'd left in Fremantle by accident- I got the package at mum's place & I'm so grateful! x Then we were off to Cathy & Andrew's place in Sydney for some more website development chats & the addition of some hi res shots for the press gallery & of course great coffee & the best omelettes I've ever tasted. That brings me almost up to date as I sit here in Wangi Wangi typing on Scott & Jenny's luxurious computer & smell bacon & eggs frying. I think Steve & I have had more hot breakfasts on this tour than ever before in our lives! We had a late one last night. The show at the Lass O Gowrie was great & Nick & Steve played so well. We were also joined by the very talented Gregg Telian on saxophone who just about made me cry with his solo on Jericho. Jenny & Kate came along to the gig & boosted our bar cut $ nicely- ta girls! Then we headed off with them to spend the night by the shores of Lake Macquarrie. We talked & talked until 3am about everything it seemed,(with the help of a 1.5 litre battle of fine grenache & some exquisitely crumbly cheese etc...why do I always seem to be writing about food?) especially love & music & laughed so much. I now have a sore head... nothing that bacon can't fix! |
